Margaret JoBeth Williams produced on December 6, 1948 is an American movie, television and stage performer. She’s the present president of the Screen Actors Guild Foundation. She’s been active in her field since 1974 and since then she continues to be known for her exceptional portrayals in a variety of movies till the present date. Her third nomination was for her guest character in the sitcom Frasier (1993-1994). She made her directorial debut with all the 1994 short film On Expectation, that she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. She also starred in the TV series The Client (1995-1996) and had recurring characters in the TV series’ Dexter (2007) and Private Practice (2009-2011).
Williams was born in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Pembroke College in Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1970, meaning to be a child psychologist. Instead, she turned to theatre, preparing with Jim Barnhill and John Emigh at the same time as in the Trinity Repertory Company, taking voice lessons to neutralize her Texan accent. Subsequently she moved to NYC and started to appear in television series in the mid 1970s. Williams’s first television role was on the Boston-made first-run syndicated children’s television series Jabberwocky, which debuted in 1972.
JoBeth Williams is also known for starring opposite Kris Kristofferson in Oscar-winning director Franklin J. Schaffner’s closing movie, the Vietnam POW play Welcome Home (1989).
